Top 5 Changes to Supercharge Your Shopify Store's Conversions

Alright, Shopify store owners, gather 'round! If you're tired of seeing tumbleweeds roll through your online aisles and hearing crickets when you check your sales notifications, it's time for a change.

I’m here to sprinkle some conversion rate optimization (CRO) magic on your digital storefront.

Let’s dive into the top 5 changes you can make to turn those browsers into buyers.

1. Speed Up, Buttercup!

Slow and steady wins the race?

Not in the e-commerce world! If your store takes longer to load than it does to brew a cup of coffee, you’re losing customers faster than you can say “conversion rate.”

Aim for a loading time of under 3 seconds.

Compress images, minimize code, and consider a performance-boosting app.

Statistics show that a mere one-second delay in page response can result in a 7% reduction in conversions

Your customers' patience is thinner than a pizza crust, so keep it snappy!

2. Simplify Navigation – Get Rid of the Treasure Map

Your customers are not Indiana Jones.

They shouldn’t need a map to find what they’re looking for.

Keep your navigation menu clean and intuitive.

Categories should be clear, and products should be easy to find.

Think of your store as a well-organized grocery store – everything in its place, and no one has to ask where the milk is.

Allsaints do this amazingly well.

They keep their Primary Navigation very simple, and then allow you to easily find each collection with ease.

3. Crystal Clear Calls-to-Action – No Mind Reading Required

Your customers aren’t psychic.

If you want them to click a button, make sure it’s obvious.

Use bold, contrasting colors for your calls-to-action (CTAs) and use action-packed language.

Buy Now,” “Add to Cart,” or “Get Yours Today” works wonders.

Place these buttons where they're impossible to miss, like a neon sign in a desert.

Patchplans.com not only have a simple “Add to bag” call to action, but it dynamically updates depending on what options you choose.

If you just want a plant, it will say “Add plant to bag”, but if you select a pot too, the call to action button updates to “Add plant and pot to bag”.

You’re not left wondering what the next step is, they literally spell it out for you, and its clear as day what the next step is.

4. Trust Badges – Because No One Trusts the Internet

People are skeptical of online shopping, and who can blame them?

Add trust badges to show that your site is secure, and your payment methods are legit.

Include customer reviews and testimonials, and don't be shy about flaunting any awards or recognitions.

Think of it as putting on a nice suit for a job interview – you’ve got to look trustworthy to seal the deal.

If you dont yet have customer reviews and testimonials on your site, or for your products, start asking for them. They can increase conversions by almost 10%!

This can (and should) be done with your Email marketing flows.

Once someone buys your product, be sure to send them an email a few days later asking them for a reviews.

If need be, incentivise them if they do. Offer free delivery off their next delivery, or a discount code.

The reviews you put on your site, will more than make up for any short term discounts you provide.

Amazon are the king of customer reviews, but you dont need to have 1000’s of customers to get started.

There are plenty of review apps that you can add to your Shopify Store to make the integration seamless.

As well as product reviews, ask your customers to review you on popular review sites like TrustPilot.

Be sure to own your Trustpilot page and reply back to your reviews, good or bad.

If you get a bad review, learn from it, but also see it as an opportunity to show others how good your customer service is when customers aren’t happy.

Reply back with a friendly message, offer assistance to right any issues they have and show them you aren’t the type of store that stays quiet when customers have issues.

55,000+ people can’t be wrong. So this instills a lot of confidence in potential customers.

5. Mobile Optimization – Tiny Screens, Big Sales

Over half of e-commerce traffic comes from mobile devices.

If your store looks like a hot mess on a smartphone, you’re in trouble.

Make sure your site is responsive, with easy-to-read text, clickable buttons, and seamless navigation on mobile.

Test it on various devices – if it’s a pain for you, it’s a nightmare for your customers.

We’re gonna head back over to Allsaints for this one, just look how clean they keep their mobile store.

When we optimize for our clients, we’ll also start on mobile, we recommend you do the same!

Conclusion: Conversion Bliss Awaits

There you have it – five simple changes that can make a world of difference.

Speed up your site, streamline navigation, make your CTAs pop, build trust, and go mobile-friendly.

It’s not rocket science, but it does take a bit of elbow grease.

Implement these tweaks, and watch your conversions soar like a caffeinated eagle.

Happy selling!
